Biography
Glenn Kaino is an internationally recognized artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, painting, installation, performance, public art, theater, and film.
Kaino’s practice draws from art historical movements such as Arte Povera, Conceptualism, and performance, and frequently leverages scientific phenomena and illusion to reveal systems of power and foster empathy. Major projects include the off-Broadway show In & Of Itself (with Derek DelGaudio), the documentary With Drawn Arms (with Tommie Smith), and the tech-driven platform VISIBILITY (with Jesse Williams).
A civic leader in the Los Angeles art scene, Kaino co-founded Deep River, the Mistake Room, and Active Cultures. He is the recipient of LA’s two largest-ever public art commissions, for the 6th Street Viaduct and MTA LAX Metro Connector. His work has been exhibited widely, including at the Whitney Biennial, Lyon Biennale, Prospect.3, MASS MoCA, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, and is held in major museum collections across the U.S.
